The Social Security Administration is making several changes to the way they are determining who qualifies for disability benefits.
The Social Security Disability Insurance program pays benefits for people who are unable to work due to physical or mental health ailments. This program, as of late, has been struggling with the problem of fraudulent claims.
Because of this, the Social Security Administration is changing the job description of the administrative law judges. These judges will no longer have complete individual independence to award or deny benefits and will be subjected to supervision from the agency.
To apply for benefits, a person must apply through the Social Security Administration. If they are denied after an initial screening of their application, then they can appeal the denial and have their case presented to an administrative judge.
